Project Overview
The Town of Grimsby Operations Centre Expansion project is composed of a 12,000 square foot building expansion. Three additions to the existing building including Industrial Bays, office and storage space, were constructed utilizing different methods of construction including but not limited to masonry construction, steel construction and a pre-engineered building system. Renokrew worked along side KALOS Engineering and Moon-Matz to undertake demolition of one existing building, construct three new additions and undertake extensive renovations to the existing Bays including mechanical, electrical and AODA accessibility upgrades. The new building features 30-foot ceilings, LED lighting, 18 overhead bays, 100,000-pound capacity hoist, insulated steel cladding, brick veneer, and FRR components.
The Town of Grimsby Operations Centre is the hub from which the town’s maintenance services are delivered. The client’s goal was to expand the current space to address office, storage, staffing and training needs, along with upgrades to the main building to address accessibility requirements and added mechanical bays to serve the vast fleet of equipment and vehicles needed for day to day Town Operations.
One of the major challenges was working in a space constrained environment, due to the proximity of ongoing Operations in the existing building. Not only was the phasing and scheduling critical, it was also very important to maintain rapport with the Town’s operational staff, who continued their day to day operations in a construction zone.
The project was a great success. Through the efficient and sequenced work maintained with trade contractors and the project team, the project was completed ahead of schedule. Renokrew met all deadlines through proper planning and execution, and the team worked with trades to meet and exceed schedule expectations. The owners and staff are excited about the finished product and were positive throughout all aspects of construction.
